How to Blog: How to Choose a Blog Niche [6 Tips]
Earlier in the week we looked at the importance of ‘niches' when it comes to building profitable blogs . Today I want to extend the topic and gives the process that I tend to use when working out if I want to start a new blog in a particular niche. I hope you find it helpful. Many factors will come into play when it comes to choosing a niche to blog about – but the following are those that I tend to pay most attention to: 1. Your Interest in the Topic I started out blogging on topics that interest..

Let’s Meet at SXSWi!
As this post goes live I'll be in the process of arriving at SXSW Interactive in Austin Texas. I was fortunate enough to at SXSWi two years back and it was one of the best conference experiences that I've had – so I've made it a priority this year to return. My schedule is pretty open. The main thing that I'll be doing is a book reading this Friday night. I'll be talking about some of what Chris and I have included in the 2nd edition of the ProBlogger book (due out next month). The book reading is on at..

Book Review of Rework, a New Bestselling Business Book
Rework is the new business book by Jason Fried and David Heinemeier Hansson, the executive team of 37signals . I'm a big fan of their blog and Backpack , one of their products, so when I found out they were releasing a business book, I had to check it out. The release date was yesterday so I went to my local Barnes & Noble, found the book, and read the whole thing there in two hours. Yes, the book is short compared to other business books but I liked it so much that I bought it for reference sake. Even though..

OK, I can see myself waste some time with this. Google Reader Play is a casual, push style way to feed yourself distracting/ enlightening/ inspiring snippets, imagery and videos. You can star a specific page, Like it or share it, but just jumping from page to page using the bottom navigation works too. Note Reader Play is personalized. No, we can't translate "Yes we can"
Ten years ago, the best-available translation software analysed the source text to determine its structure: subject, object, nouns, verbs, phrases, etc. From the structure tree, a new text could be generated in the target language. The precise details of Google's translation algorithms are not published, but the structure tree is not the main mechanism. Instead, there is a corpus – an enormous database of parallel works. These are works available in more than one language as a result of a previous human..

Posted by jennita Note: This post will make you smile, possibly even laugh. It won't however teach you much about SEO. You've been warned. Last week I attended SMX West in Santa Clara, California and took a couple flip video cameras along. I thought it would be fun to do "man on the street" interviews, somewhat along the lines of Jay Leno's " Jaywalking " episodes on The Tonight Show. Targeting Multiple Keywords vs. Singular Keyword Focus
Posted by randfish Despite being a seemingly simple topic, this one seems to stymie even experienced SEOs. There's a natural conflict that creates the issue - the more keywords you target on a single page, the less you need to link build and optimize (for both search engines and user experience/conversion rate) on many pages. To answer this question in a logical and truly optimal fashion, you need to start with the answer to two other important questions: How many of these keywords carry the same visitor inte..

As with many bloggers, we've been using royalty free images for many years. Many bloggers make use of images from Flickr and we have too but you can't always find the right image there. I've even made a point to take more photos of people, places and things while traveling for later use in blog posts like the one to the right. Do Some People Confuse Public and Private Buzz Messages?
Do some people confuse public Buzz messages with private email conversations? I don't know, but some of the following conversations I found using Gmail's Buzz search sounded a bit odd. One of the conversation, for instance, was by a person who only follows one person and only has one follower. Then again, how would this misunderstanding come about, if that's the case, as Buzz says “Public on the web” next to the Post button, and doesn't offer a field to address only a single person? What Do You Do With Your Blog to Make it Stand Out from the Crowd?
Last week on Twitter I was asked by @southrngurl6489 the following question: If you had to pick only one thing that makes a blog stand out from its peers, what would you pick and why? Why eBay Partner Network Makes 22 Times More Money Than AdSense On My Blog
Updated on March 5, 2009: I noticed a huge discrepancy with my Google Analytics pageviews versus the impressions being reported by eBay Partner Network. I did some digging and found that eBay counts link impressions not page impressions. For example, one of my posts has 22 links to eBay. This means a pageview is actually 22 impressions to eBay. Needless to say that changed my calculations. I reworked the numbers and found that instead of 200% in the original post, eBay makes me 22 times more money than AdSens..

Topeka, Kansas Is Now Google, Kansas
Bill Bunten, the Mayor of Topeka (the capital city of Kansas, USA) has signed a proclamation declaring that during March the city will be known as Google, Kansas.
